Educational Programming FAQs

Amber Waves Education provides fun, hands-on learning opportunities for children of all ages to explore and learn about food, farming, and the natural world.  We have provided some frequently asked questions and answers below.  If you have any other questions, please email education@amberwavesfarm.org.

  • We teach outdoors, so we recommend dressing for the elements. Come prepared to get dirty! Wear boots and jackets in the spring to protect from wind, rain, and muddy conditions. In the fall and winter, dress warmly in layers for colder weather. In the summer, don’t forget a hat and sun protection.

  • We encourage you to cancel classes you cannot attend to allow space for other students to join; however, we cannot offer refunds. All canceled and no-show class fees will be donated to support our mission driven work of providing classes to underserved children in our local community throughout the season.

  • Educators may cancel a class when weather impacts activities and children’s comfort. Classes will be canceled in severe or dangerous weather. Educators reserve the right to make the cancellation call. Canceled classes due to the weather will not be rescheduled. Refunds are issued for these classes and may take up to 7 days to process.

Please note: If we need to cancel a class, you will receive a notification via email up to 1 hour before classes start. If you do not receive any communications about delays/cancellations due to weather, assume that class is still on - please dress appropriately!

  • If you would like to reschedule, we may be able to accommodate you. Please reach out to education@amberwavesfarm.org. Note: we are a small team, leading classes daily, so we will do our best to reply within a day or two. We appreciate your patience.

  • Yes, we allow you to transfer a class to someone else. Please notify education@amberwavesfarm.org within 48 hours of the scheduled class. The class recipient will fill out a registration form upon arrival if they are not in the system.

  • Yes, all classes, including the Baby Farmer Music Class, require online registration. Please have a look at our website for class availability. Registration is NOT required for community programs like Exploration Garden and Storytime. All visitors are encouraged to walk in and join these programs!

  • Yes. Register through the booking website for any desired sold-out class to join a waitlist for any class. If an opening occurs, you will automatically be notified via email, allowing you to book that spot. Available spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Parents and caregivers are expected to be active and present during class. The Outdoor Classroom is a safe place for kids to explore. There is no right or wrong way to do our activities. Our mission is to help immerse children in the natural world and allow them to experience the farm in their own way! Parents and caregivers are responsible for their children on the farm. Because we are a working farm, we ask that you and your child stay within our safe, designated areas during class. Please ensure you have enough caregivers to attend to your children. We encourage adults to participate in activities during class.

  • Exploration Garden is an open house, and guests are encouraged to come and go freely. Please let us know if you will be more than 15 minutes late for a registered farmer class.

  • Due to the fast-paced nature of the class, if you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we cannot accommodate you, and we are unable to offer a refund.

  • Tasting is often a part of farm classes. For cooking classes, menus are decided weekly due to vegetable availability. Please note any allergy on the online registration form in the appropriate box. However, if you have further concerns, please email us at education@amberwavesfarm.org to discuss your child’s allergy.

  • Caregivers are required for children under 5 years old, except for the mixed-aged farmer class, where caregivers are required for all children. Two caregivers per child are allowed for our Toddler Farmer Classes. One caregiver is allowed for cooking classes due to limited spacing. All other classes requiring a caregiver allow one caregiver per registered child.

  • Drop-off is optional for our classes, ages five and older, at the discretion of our educators. Caregivers are required for all other classes. Staying on the premise is always encouraged.

  • Yes, we urge you to contact our education team if the cost of classes is a burden or a deterrent from participating. Please email education@amberwavesfarm.org, and we will gladly review your request.

  • Yes, we can accommodate everyone! Contact education@amberwaves.org to coordinate and plan your visit.

  • School field trips and camp visits include a 45-60 minute class led by our educators. Topics and crafts related to seeding, planting, harvesting, and other farm related activities can be coordinated beforehand. Please email education@amberwavesfarm.org to secure a time and get more information and pricing. Picnic areas can be made available for use before or after the visit with the education team but must be reserved ahead of time. All visitors should stay in designated public areas and always be supervised by teachers and counselors.
